ACC rivals NC State and Miami will meet for the first time since 2008 when they square off this afternoon at Sun Life Stadium in South Florida (12:00pm ET start time, ESPNU). Miami earned a week one win and cover at Boston College (41-32), but it suffered a major blow to its morale/reputation the following weekend in Manhattan, Kansas. The Hurricanes were brutalized by Bill Snyder’s Wildcats, falling 52-13 in a game that was never close.
Fortunately for Miami, its meeting with K-State was followed by a home game with FCS school Bethune Cookman. The Hurricanes won that contest 38-10, allowing them to get their feet under them before last weekend’s showdown with Georgia Tech at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Miami, playing as a 14 point road dog, stung the Yellow Jackets 42-36 in overtime to improve to 2-0 in league play. Al Golden’s crew pounded out 30 first downs (converted 11-of-16 on third down) and amassed 609 total yards in the upset win.
NC State opened its season with a 35-21 loss to Tennessee at the Georgia Dome, but it has since won three straight games, beating Connecticut, South Alabama, and the Citadel by an average of 21.7 points per game.
The Wolfpack have won the last two games in this series, defeating the Hurricanes 19-16 in 2007 and 38-28 in 2008. North Carolina State is also 4-1 against the spread playing as a road dog against an ACC opponent with a total of 54.5 or more points.
