College Football Monday Capital One Bowl South Carolina vs. Nebraska Start Time, Free Pick

The South Carolina Gamecocks and Nebraska Cornhuskers will meet up Monday in the Capital One Bowl. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the odds have the Gamecocks favored by a field goal at -3 with the total being set at 46, coming down from 48 where it opened. The SEC will look to continue its dominance in college football, but Nebraska, representing the Big Ten, will be looking for its 10th win of the season.

Free Analysis: What's in your wallet? South Carolina finished in the Top 10 in every major poll including the final BCS standings, but because of the National Championship matchup between LSU and Alabama pitting SEC schools together, the Gamecocks were on the outside looking in for the BCS. The last time a Steve Spurrier team took on Nebraska his 12-0 Florida Gators were blown out in the national title game 62-24 at the hands of Tommy Frazier in the 1996 Fiesta Bowl. Back then the Huskers were the talk of college football and if Bo Pelini continues to coach in Lincoln, the school just might return to those glory days. Pelini teams have won nine, 10, 10 and nine games in his four years there, becoming one of just eight programs in the country to have four straight current seasons with 9+ wins. Plus, a win here today would give Nebraska a third-straight 10-win season. Not bad. South Carolina is one victory away from the winningest season in its history. The Gamecocks (10-2) have matched the 1984 team for the most wins in the 118-year history of the program, finished SEC play with a school-best 6-2 record and defeated all five of their East Division rivals. South Carolina has never beaten Nebraska and have dropped all three meetings. Both teams average more than 30 points per game while giving up an average of right around 20 points. Nebraska's three losses were all to bowl teams. The Huskers were blown out by Big Ten BCS foes Wisconsin (31 points) and Michigan (28 points) as they could get nothing going. They were also beaten by Northwestern in a close matchup. South Carolina's losses came to Auburn and Arkansas. Running back Marcus Lattimore still won't play with his leg injury and season starting QB Stephen Garcia was kicked off the team. In comes quarterback Connor Shaw, who has done great things for the Gamecocks. Nebraska isn't exactly a scary passing team and South Carolina's defense will be the best they've played all year. If the Huskers are able to compete, they'll have to control the clock and run the ball. Nebraska ranked 13th in the country this year with 223.9 rushing yards per game, with running back Rex Burkhead and quarterback Taylor Martinez combining to rush for 200 or more five times. Burkhead ran for 1,268 yards and 15 touchdowns this season while Martinez had nine TDs, all of which came in the school's first six games. If Nebraska can run the rock they will stay in the game. South Carolina's offense will be the key to the game and if Shaw can get his team into the end zone, the Gamecocks will be OK.

Free Pick: I like Nebraska against the number and I think this will be one of those really good bowl games that everyone will look at after the season is done and wished they'd paid more attention to. This is a great matchup between these two clubs and there should be some scoring going on. South Carolina's defense is one of the better groups in the country but if they provide too much of a pass rush, Nebraska will be able to dump it off and gash them for chunks of yards. It's hard to go against the SEC in bowl games, especially with South Carolina ending the season in the Top 10, but I think Nebraska is ready to go in this one. They're getting three points but I think they can win outright.
