The Boise State Broncos welcome in the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns in college football action Saturday night. The game is scheduled for a 10:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Broncos as a heavy favorite in this one.
This should be a pretty solid game between a couple of good programs. Louisiana-Lafayette and Boise State are both a couple of schools that don't have a problem playing tough competition and now will face off on the gridiron against each other.
Lafayette had three straight seasons with at least nine wins, but this year has been a bit of a step back. The Ragin Cajuns are just 1-2 and have been beaten pretty bad by both Louisiana Tech and Ole Miss. Heading across the country to take on the Broncos on the blue turf isn't going to make their season any easier. So far this season the Cajuns have been out-gained by an average of 175 yards per game while being out-scored 104-35.
Boise State has rebounded well after a season-opening loss to Ole Miss. The Rebels are the only common team between these two schools that will play tonight. The Broncos lost by 22 on a neutral site while the Cajuns were torched by 41 last week in Oxford.
First-year head coach Bryan Harsin for the Broncos is looking to keep the program where it was under Chris Peterson, who is now at Washington. But before getting to the Mountain West schedule next week, they'll have to take care of the Cajuns. Boise plays at Air Force next week to open the conference slate before heading to Nevada the week after. Getting a win here, at home, over a feisty bunch of Cajuns would be ideal.
Boise's secondary could prove to have an impact on this game. They've given up nine touchdown passes on the season but also have intercepted seven passes as well. Terrance Broadway is going to have to have a big game if the Cajuns are going to hang around in this one.
But Broadway's problems won't necessarily all be his fault in this one. Boise is looking for a marquee win tonight on national television and the Cajuns have been too inconsistent this season. Look for the blue turf to be too much tonight for Lafayette.
