College football on Saturday afternoon and we will see the Central Florida Knights travel to Ford Stadium to take on the SMU Mustangs. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and be will televised on ESPN. Current odds have Central Florida listed as 11.5 point favorites, while the total sits at 58.
Analysis: The Knights already have the AAC title locked up and now will look to finish the season unbeaten on the road for the first time in school history. Central Florida's offense ranks 30th in the nation, averaging 34.6 ppg. Blake Bortles' 167.3 passer rating is ranked seventh in the nation and his 276.2 passing ypg falls behind only Gilbert and Bridgewater in the conference. Storm Johnson leads the conference in rushing yards with 978 and the Knights' 157.1 ypg on the ground ranks second among AAC teams. On defense the Knights are very stout, as they come in allowing just 349.4 ypg and 20.2 ppg on the year. Both numbers are ranked in the top 18 in the country.
The Mustangs had a chance to make themselves bowl eligible last weekend for the fifth straight year, but a 34-0 loss the Cougars took care of that. It was the first time since 2004 that the Mustangs were shutout. The SMU passing offense currently ranks seventh in the nation with 351.1 ypg, but they may be without Gilbert for this on as he is listed as questionable. If he can't go then it will Neal Burcham, who took over for Gilbert last week and completed 27-of-52 passes for 212 yards, but he was sacked five times and tossed three interceptions. The rushing attack can't help Burcham at all as it averages a mere 95.2 ypg (116th). On defense the Mustangs have the AAC's worst unit, allowing 34.8 ppg.
Pick: The Knight's don't have a ton to play for here, but they still would like to finish the year undefeated in the AAC, plus a win here could very well get them to a better BCS bowl. The Mustangs will play hard, because a win here will get them bowl eligible, but still a big question mark at the QB spot and a leaky defense will keep them from keeping this one close.
