The Boise State Broncos hit the road in college football action on Saturday when they take on the New Mexico Lobos. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network. Currently the odds for the game have the Broncos favored by a comfortable margin on the road.
Boise State is looking to continue climbing up the Mountain West standings while New Mexico is having another tough seasons. The Broncos obviously replaced head coach Chris Peterson and are looking for another identity since he's been gone and they may have been able to find it. Losing to Ole Miss to start the season isn't a bad loss at all, but dropping a game by two touchdowns on the road at Air Force certainly didn't do them any favors.
Boise sits at 6-2 overall this season and 3-1 in the conference. They still have Utah State left on the schedule and already have beaten Colorado State, so the upcoming game with the Aggies in the final game of the season should determine which team heads to the conference title game. Obviously by saying that, we're expecting Boise State to come away with this win on the road down in New Mexico.
Bob Davey hasn't been able to fully get the system going down there and the Lobos are now just 3-5 for the season. They can run the football well at 304 yards per game this season (fifth best in the country) but other than that, can't do anything right. The defense gives up 32 points per game and New Mexico puts up only 26 themselves, which is a bad combination. They pass for less than 75 yards per game, 127th best in the country.
They did win last week, however, over UNLV. That's not to say the Lobos have a lot of confidence coming into this one, but they are playing at home. Boise State brings an offense led by Grant Hedrick and Jay Ajayi that scores 35 points per game. The Broncos will look to hang at least that on New Mexico tonight.
Boise State is 5-0 all-time against New Mexico, but the Lobos have covered the spread in three of those games. Boise is laying nearly three touchdowns in this one, but New Mexico should be able to keep the ball on the ground for a good chunk of time. The defense, though, just isn't good enough to keep the Broncos out of the end zone. This one will be tough for New Mexico to win at home.
