The Tennessee Volunteers and Georgia Bulldogs will meet on the hardwoods tonight in SEC college basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 9 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the odds for the game have Tennessee favored by double digits in this contest.
Tennessee and Georgia both have 10 losses on the season. Neither is slated to make the NCAA Tournament at this point in the season, but running the table and making a solid showing in the conference tournament could prove to have a positive finish. Tennessee might be the team here with the most to continue winning. The Vols have lost two straight contests and three of their last four games to fall deeper in the SEC standings. They won't play a ranked opponent again for the remainder of the regular season.
Georgia sits in third place for the conference with an 8-4 record. They're just 14-10 overall this season as they had a struggle in the non-conference portion of their schedule, losing to powerhouses Georgia Tech, Temple and Nebraska. But, in all seriousness, the Bulldogs have an outside shot to make the NCAA Tournament and have ripped off four straight wins. A road win here tonight over Tennessee would certainly help bolster their resume.
Tennessee will look to Jordan McRae and Jarnell Stokes. Jeronne Maymon also averages double digits for the Vols this season. Georgia has just two players averaging in double digits this season, with Charles Mann and his 13.9 points per game and Kenny Gaines and his 12 points per contest.
The Bulldogs don't score a lot of points and aren't a team that gets a lot of solid ball movement offensively. They don't rebound the basketball well, either. Tennessee does pound the glass for 39 boards per game.
Georgia is just 2-5 on the road this year. Tennessee is 11-3 in home games this season. But we don't think this game is going to be a blowout like the spread suggests in this game. Georgia can keep this close and we expect this to be a single digit game.
