The Florida Gators are on the road in college basketball action on Saturday, taking on the Vanderbilt Commodores. It might seem a bit strange, but a Vanderbilt win here could put them into the NCAA Tournament. The Commodores are only 16-14 on the year but they have four Top 50 RPI wins and they already beat Florida in Gainesville. To find a way to sweep the season series against the Gators would certainly be something worth looking at for the post season. Vandy led late at Kentucky the other day but wasn't able to close the game out. They lived with a comfortable lead in the opening half, only to see Kentucky eventually hit enough shots to come away with the win. That was a big blow to a Commodore team that is looking for additional resume builders to have an argument for the tournament.
Florida is fine itself, but the Gators would need to win here and Kentucky to lose at Texas A&M to earn a share of the SEC title. That seems unlikely, but the Gators would still end up as the second seed in the SEC Tournament which could potentially give them another shot at the Wildcats in a would-be conference title game. Either way, the Gators can benefit from a win here. They've already won 10 of the last 11 games overall (the lone loss to Kentucky) and a road win here would be significant for them heading into the post season.
Vanderbilt put up a good fight and has some decent wins this year, but Florida will win this one.
