Major League Baseball continues tonight with an American League matchup between the Cleveland Indians and the Toronto Blue Jays. The game is scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. EST start time and it will be televised nationally on MLB.tv. Currently the odds for the game have Toronto as a slight favorite.
Toronto went out and spent a lot of money this off-season, acquiring several players and making themselves look very attractive on paper. Yet, after the opening two games of the season you'd think they were the same old Blue Jays, dropping each of their contests to the Cleveland Indians. Tonight they'll look to avoid getting swept at home by those pesky Indians, turning to newcomer Mark Buehrle on the hill.
Buehrle is no stranger to the Indians, having spent several years as part of the Chicago White Sox pitching rotation. Current Cleveland hitters have a combined average of .293 in better than 230 plate appearances. The veteran lefty surely will have a lot of pressure on him tonight to pick up the team's first win of the season, but they are playing at home and Buehrle might be able to keep Cleveland off-balanced.
The Indians will run out Brett Myers, who also is making his first start for a new club. Myers previously spent some of his career in the bullpen for teams but will be manning the starting rotation for Cleveland. Last year Myers was 3-8 with 19 saves and a 4.24 ERA in 70 relief appearances with Houston and the White Sox last season. Current Blue Jays are hitting .276 in 145 at bats against Myers, who has a 3.97 ERA in six career games against Toronto.
The Jays have a lot of star power on the club, including both Jose Reyes and Jose Bautista, who will look to get their team back on track in this one and get their first win of the season.
Cleveland has out-scored Toronto 7-3 in the two combined games so far. Yet, we like the Jays to get off the bad streak to open the year in this one.
