The Brooklyn Nets quest to reel in the Atlantic leading New York Knicks continues tonight as they square off against the Los Angeles Clippers at the STAPLES Center. Brooklyn, which opened an eight game road swing on Monday night, notched its third win in four games on Wednesday with a 113-96 thrashing of the Mavericks.
The win improved the Nets record to 40-28 and left them just 1.5 games back of their divisional nemesis, New York.
Brooklyn, which shot 50.6 percent from the field opposite the Mavs, had several standout performers in Dallas. Brook Lopez scored 38 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Deron Williams added 31 points and six assists. The Nets also got a huge rebounding boost from Reggie Evans, who snagged 22 of the teams 45 boards.
Brooklyn will probably need similar outings from that trio tonight if they hope to get past the Clippers. Los Angeles has struggled some of late, going 4-4 in its last eight games; however, Chris Paul and company are usually a tough out at the STAPLES Center.
The Clippers earned their 27th home win on Wednesday with a 101-72 destruction of the Philadelphia 76ers. L.A. downed 41 of its 78 field goal attempts, but it’s most impressive work came at the defensive end of the floor. The Sixers, who had 19 turnovers, connected on just 29-of-79 from the field and they only garnered 10 shots from the charity stripe.
Notable Trends: The Clippers, who have lost five of their last six games against the Nets, are 9-1 straight up but 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games as a home favorite with a spread between 8 and 10.5 points and a total between 190 and 195 points.
