The Boston Red Sox are on the road tonight to take on the Chicago White Sox in Major League Baseball action. The game is scheduled for an 8:10 p.m. start time and it will be televised live in both markets. Currently the odds for the game have the White Sox listed as a big favorite at home to pick up the win.
Both Boston and Chicago are well out of the playoff picture in Major League Baseball this season. Tonight could see another fantastic effort from White Sox pitcher Chris Sale, though. Sale is one of the best lefties in the league and tonight takes on a Boston team that does't strike out a lot, ranking third lowest in the league in total strikeouts this season. Sales' a big strikeout pitcher, being tied with Clayton Kershaw with the most in the league.
So which happens, do the Red Sox collect some hits against Sale and put the ball in play against him or does he fan a bunch? Sale has held opponents to a .214 average in 12 home starts this season, a span of 85 1/3 innings overall. Sale has allowed only 19 walks in that time while compiling a 5-3 record and a 2.95 ERA. Current Red Sox are hitting .266 against him in 64 plate appearances, Xander Bogaerts has homered off Sale, who owns 17 strikeouts against them.
The Red Sox will throw Rick Porcello, who is no stranger to the White Sox following his time in Detroit. Porcello, who throws a nice sinkerball, has not been very solid this season going 5-11 with a 5.81 ERA. Porcello has really struggled away from home this season as well, going 1-6 in 10 starts with a 6.83 ERA. Opponents are hitting a blistering .323 against Porcello in those starts and have struck out only 42 times over the course of 54 innings. Porcello hasn't been able to figure it out yet this season and tonight could be a tough one as the White Sox will be looking to jump on him.
Current White Sox are hitting .349 against him in 192 at bats, that's a decent sample size. Alexei Ramirez and Geovany Soto have both homered twice while Jose Abreu, Gordon Beckham, Melky Cabrera and Adam Eaton all own home runs off of him as well. Based on batter vs. pitcher statistics, the White Sox look like the right play here tonight.

Vegas betting expert Steve Fezzik doesn’t expect the bad situation in Oakland to get much better this season. This AFC West team may have some improvements in terms of personnel, but Jack Del Rio is the latest in a carousel of ever-changing mediocre coaches, and Fezzik doesn’t expect he is the guy to turn this team around. He also thinks people are overstating Derek Carr’s abilities at quarterback, as he may do well in the fourth quarter, but his numbers are padded with garbage time performance.
