Boise State has lost just three games over the last four seasons, and they have been a BCS contender every year during that stretch as a result. The odds makers are not expecting the Broncos to be in national title hunt this season, though. Petersen only returns seven starters from last year’s team, and among the departures was the NCAA’s all-time wins leader at quarterback, Kellen Moore. With the loss of Moore, leading receiver Tyler Shoemaker, and leading rusher Doug Martin, it only figures that Boise will take a step back. However, Petersen recorded 13-0 and 10-3 seasons before Moore’s arrival in Idaho, so vanquish any notions about the Broncos falling too far below the high bar they have set over recent seasons.
Boise State’s schedule lends itself to several wins with its biggest challenge coming in the season opener at Michigan State. The Broncos are listed as a +6 dog against the Spartans, but they should be favored in the majority of their other games. Potential swing games include meetings with Fresno State, BYU, and Nevada. Fortunately for Petersen and company they get the Bulldogs and Cougars at home.
