The Wisconsin Badgers are on the road in Big Ten College Basketball action tonight, taking on the Iowa Hawkeyes. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Hawkeyes favored at home by a couple of possession.
This is another big game for Wisconsin. The Badgers have been in a tough spot for a good portion of the season, but a late surge (with some nice wins) has them back in the discussion. Wisconsin has won eight of the last 12 games overall, the Badgers have earned wins over Michigan State, Indiana and Maryland — all teams at the top of the Big Ten standings, the past month.
Iowa was once the top-ranked team in the country, but now they find themselves losers in two of the last three games overall, though both of those contests were on the road. The Hawkeyes haven’t played in a week, the most recent game saw them fall at Penn State 79-75 in a game that could certainly affect their seeding for the NCAA Tournament.
The good news for Iowa is all four of its remaining games are against Top 100 RPI teams, though two of them are on the road in Ohio State and Michigan. The Hawkeyes will be playing Indiana as well next week, bringing a greater look at the regular season conference title as Indiana and Iowa could be tied once again for first place if the Hawkeyes can win tonight. Iowa’s numbers have been strong all season, plus the Hawkeyes have won all 13 games at home. Wisconsin hasn’t been a terrible team in road games with a 4-4 record, they did win at Maryland recently for the best road victory of the season. It’s going to take a major effort tonight to knock off Iowa.
The Hawkeyes have to win this game to avoid a potential problem in the final weeks of the season. The regular season conference title is something Iowa can obtain, but they’ll have to win at home here tonight.
