The Minnesota Golden Gophers are hosting the Purdue Boilermakers tonight in Big Ten College Basketball action. The game is scheduled for a 9:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. Currently the betting odds for the game have the Boilermakers favored to pick up the victory on the road.
Minnesota is arguably the biggest disappointment in college basketball this season. The Golden Gophers are 6-14 overall and 0-8 in Big Ten play, they haven’t beaten anybody since a win against Chicago State back on Dec. 16 and it doesn’t look any better the next week. Minnesota hosts Purdue tonight and is on the road at Indiana on Saturday, making an 0-10 start in conference play very possible.
Purdue has been solid all year. Matt Painter’s club recently lost at Iowa in a battle of two of the conference’s best, but a 17-4 record to open the season is strong. The Boilers are tough on the interior with A.J. Hammons and Caleb Swanigan, Isaac Haas also provides them with a strong presence.
Minnesota is going to have trouble matching up and keeping Purdue off the boards. The Boilermakers are the best team in the country in rebounding margin this season, sitting at plus-12.2 per game. Minnesota is routinely crushed on the boards, the Gophers rank 310th in the country in rebounding margin per game, sitting five total boards on average behind their opponents.
Purdue is going to gobble them up inside and make a ton of high-percentage shots, in addition to put backs on the offensive end.
