The Texas Longhorns take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Big 12 Tournament action tonight. The game is scheduled for a 9:30 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPNu. Currently the College Basketball Betting Odds for the game have the Longhorns favored by a comfortable margin in this one.
Texas absolutely has to have this game. The Longhorns really don’t benefit from beating Texas Tech in this contest, but a loss is an absolute deal-breaker for them reaching the NCAA Tournament.
The victory would put Texas on the 20-win line, but the Horns have been inconsistent all season. A victory here for Texas would put them up against the second-seeded Iowa State Cyclones and a win there would certainly cement the Horns into the tournament.
Obviously they have to win this one first, but the Horns did beat Texas Tech twice this season. It’s not easy for any team to beat an opponent three times in a single season, but Texas has no other choice in this one.
The Longhorns have a big front line and an athletic point guard in Isaiah Taylor, who leads the team in scoring at better than 13 points while handing out 4.5 assists per game. Myles Turner and Jonathan Holmes also have to step up for Texas in this one to ensure a victory. The Longhorns rank sixth best in the country in rebounding per game at almost 40 and they block nearly eight shots a game as well.
Texas Tech will have its season ended with a loss, so they should bring a nice effort to this one,
The Longhorns get it done in this one, though.
