The Kansas Jayhawks are on the road against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Big 12 College Basketball action today. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN. Currently the Betting Odds for the game have the Jayhawks favored to pick up the win in a close contest.
Kansas is favored by just a bucket in this one, playing at an Oklahoma State team that is fighting to make an NCAA Tournament bid alter this season. The Jayhawks have piled up 19 wins on the season and have earned a victory in each of their last five games overall, most recently knocking off Iowa State in Lawrence.
In fact, the Cyclones back on Jan. 17 were the last team to beat Bill Self's club.
This game today features a couple of defenses that can play well. Oklahoma State has allowed opponents to score just 59.7 points per game, which ranks 31st best in the country. The Cowboys rebound, swipe the ball from opponents (13th best in the country at 8.7 steals per game) and they keep their Big 12 opponents from shooting the basketball at a decent clip. Since the turn of the calendar to January only Oklahoma has scored more than 67 points against the Cowboys.
Today Kansas will look to utilize their offense that has averaged better than 76 points per game. Perry Ellis has been one of the better players in the Big 12 this season and he's posted back-to-back solid games for the Jayhawks. He hasn't played well against Oklahoma State in the past, though, totaling just 16 points the last two games against Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State has two of the best players in the conference in Phil Forte III and Le'Bryan Nash, both scoring right around 17 per contest. While they are the two best options for Oklahoma State offensively, the Cowboys are going to need someone else to step up and have a solid game shooting the basketball as Kansas will look to take away their best options.
Kansas is playing four of its next six games on the road while Oklahoma State is playing their fourth ranked opponent in a give-game stretch. They'll also take on Baylor on Monday night.
Today, Kansas will be too much.
