Saturday college basketball and we will see the Michigan State Spartans travel to Assembly Hall to take on the Indiana Hoosiers. The game has a start time of 12:00 pm (Eastern) and will be televised on ESPN. Current Vegas betting odds have the Spartans listed as 1 point favorites, while the total is set at 143.
Analysis: On Wednesday night the Michigan State Spartans snapped their brief 2 game losing streak with a hard fought 72-66 home win over Purdue. The win now has the Spartans at 20-10 on the year overall, including 11-6 in the Big 10 and 6-4 in true road games. MSU has gone 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games, but just 4-9 ATS the last 13 games played at Indiana. The Spartans have been a good offensive team this year, ranking 70th in scoring (72.1 ppg), 33rd in shooting (47.2%), 16th in 3 point shooting (39.7%) and 337th in FT shooting (63.0%). The defense for this team has been solid, ranking 79th in points allowed (62.6 ppg), 36th in defensive FG% (39.5%) and 36th in 3 point defense (30.9%).
The Indiana Hoosiers started out 5-1 in the Big 10 this year, but of late they have not been very good, going just 4-7 in their last 11 games. The Hoosiers are still 19-11 on the year overall and have played very well at home where they are 15-3 so far. The Hoosiers have gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning road record, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Hoosiers have been a very good offensive team this year, ranking 17th in scoring (78.2 ppg), 34th in shooting (47.2%), 4th in 3 point shooting (41.1%) and 91st in FT shooting (71.2%). Defensively the Hoosiers have been very bad this year, ranking 302nd in points allowed (71.7 ppg), 305th in defensive FG% (45.6%) and 101st in 3 point defense (32.8%).
Pick: I will go with the over in this one. Both of these teams have been high scoring uptempo teams this year that can score 75+ on any day. Both teams are very dangerous from long range and will always look for that spot up 3 on the break. The Hoosiers are a weak team on defense and MSU has struggled at that end of the floor of late. We also not that this is a huge game for both teams so we should get that foul fest at the end of the game. I say 148 or more here.
