Saturday (June 9, 2012) was the 144th running of the Belmont Stakes and was highlighted by I'll Have Another attempting to become only the twelfth Triple Crown winner in history before shocking the sports world by being scratched on Friday. The race was broadcast by NBC with a post time of 6:35 PM ET, with official Belmont Stakes results and payouts announced soon after. Union Rags edges out Paynter at the wire paying bettors $7.50 for every $2.00 wagered (Atigun came in third).
