Orb, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, is one of the major contenders for today's 2013 Belmont Stakes and considered the odds-on favorite to win the race. The third and final leg of horse racing's Triple Crown will take place later on this evening at at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York. While their isn't a horse running for horse racing glory in the Belmont Stakes, it certainly still will be a race to remember. The 2013 Belmont Stakes Odds for Orb are listed at 3-1 to win the race.
Horse racing believed in Orb after winning the Kentucky Derby earlier this season, but it finished in fourth place during the nine-horse running of the second leg of the Triple Crown. Now there is no chance 2013 will have a Triple Crown winner, but oddsmakers still believe that Orb is the best horse in the field. If Orb is able to win this race, it will be the 12th horse in history, and first since Thunder Gulch in 1995, to complete the Kentucky Derby-Belmont double.
The horse will open the race from the fifth post position and it will be run by jockey Joel Rosario. This will be his third Belmont Stakes appearance, having finished ninth aboard Make Music for Me in 2010 and third aboard Brilliant Speed in 2012. Orb drew post No. 5 and should be in a similar position to that of the Kentucky Derby, while Oxbow will look to win from the seventh spot, where three of the last five Belmont winners have started the race.
The turf conditions are supposed to be just awful and sloppy yet again and Orb has already won on that slop in the Derby. Remember, this is going to be a longer race at 1.5 miles and many believe that Orb has the endurance to win the race.
