The suddenly scuffling Oakland Athletics will look to snap out of their recent funk by welcoming the Baltimore Orioles to the O.co Coliseum tonight. Start time in this evening’s series opener, which features hurlers Jason Hammel and Jarrod Parker, is set for 10:05pm ET. Thursday MLB Odds have the hosting Athletics listed as a -125 moneyline favorite ($125 wins $100); the Over/Under is set at eight runs (Under favored at -125 odds).
Oakland jumped out to an incredible start, posting a 12-4 record in its first 16 games, but the past week has not been kind to the club. The Athletics are 1-5 since April 19th, causing them to fall out of first place in the American League West.
Oakland returned home last night, though, and has an opportunity to get back on track with the Orioles and Angels in town over the next week. However, if the A’s are to get things headed in the right direction this evening young right hander Jarrod Parker will need to get on track.
The second year pro is 0-3 with an ugly 7.50 ERA and 2.17 WHIP in four starts. He did look better in his last outing, though, yielding six hits and one earned run over 6.1 innings in a 0-1 loss at Tampa Bay.
The Orioles come into tonight’s game off a 6-5 extra innings loss at Toronto, but they have three straight series. Baltimore, which is now 12-9 overall and two games back of first place Boston in the AL East, will attempt to get a leg up in its series with Oakland with Jason Hammel on the mound.
Hammel has two quality starts this season, but he also presided over two less than stellar outings, leading to a mediocre 4.74 ERA for the 30 year old right hander.
Baltimore is 4-4 in its last eight games against Oakland, but the O’s are 2-7 in their last nine games at the O.co Coliseum.
Notable Trends: The Athletics are 9-1 in their last 10 games as a home favorite with a total between 7.5 and 8 runs.
