Auburn stunned the college football world two seasons ago, closing out its 2010 campaign with a 14-0 record and National Championship Trophy. After losing a number of players from that team, including Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton, the Tigers fell back to 8-5 last year. So what does this year hold for Gene Chizek’s crew? According to recently released Auburn Tigers 2013 BCS National Championship Odds, probably not another national title. Auburn is listed at 50-1 odds to win the BCS National Championship, 18-1 odds to win the SEC, and 8-1 odds to win the SEC West.
Auburn’s 2011 season started well enough with the team winning four of its first five games, but following an October 8th loss at Arkansas the Tigers were unable to establish any sort of consistency. That could change this year with Chizek welcoming 18 starters and 48 lettermen back to campus.
Perhaps aiding the Tigers in their fight to regain the top spot in the SEC West is a schedule that features home games against conference big boys LSU, Arkansas, and Georgia. Of course, Auburn would be better off not having to face those teams at all, but such is life in the SEC.
Other than road games at Mississippi State and Alabama, Auburn’s away schedule appears relatively tame as trips to Ole Miss and Vanderbilt should result in wins for the Tigers.
Auburn Tigers 2012 Schedule: 9/1 Clemson (neutral site), 9/8 at Mississippi State, 9/15 Louisiana-Monroe, 9/22 LSU, 10/6 Arkansas, 10/13 at Ole Miss, 10/20 at Vanderbilt, 10/27 Texas A&M, 11/3 New Mexico State, 11/10 Georgia, 11/17 Alabama A&M, 11/24 at Alabama
