2014 World Cup Iran vs Bosnia-Herzegovina Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

2014 World Cup Tactics Board: Analysing Carlos Queiroz's Iran

The 2014 World Cup continues Wednesday when Iran takes on Bosnia-Herzegovina in their final group stage matches. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. (EST) start time and it will be televised nationally on ESPN2. Currently the odds for the match have Bosnia favored to win this contest.

This is an interesting line. Bosnia-Herzegovina has been unfortunate so far this World Cup with single-goal losses to both Argentina and Nigeria. They've only allowed three goals so far while in Brazil, but they've only scored once. That's not going to get it done and because of those losses, they really have nothing to play for in this match other than being a spoiler for Iran.

There's still a scenario where Iran can qualify for the Round of 16 — they'll have to win this match by at least two goals and hope Argentina runs all over Nigeria. The Argentines might be able to hold up their end of the bargain, but defensively Bosnia has been pretty stifling so far. This was Bosnia's first appearance in the World Cup and we're positive it won't be their last. Will they be able to get through the group stages with a point? The oddsmakers think they should be able to, making them the favorites in this matchup with Iran.

Argentina just barely beat Iran the other day, getting a stoppage-time tally from Lionel Messi to give the Argentines three points. Iran, because of that, now has to win this contest and win it running away. Will the team come out and be beaten down and not want to continue or will they be able to rally the troops and battle?

It's also hard to determine just how hard Bosnia will play in this matchup. They are fighting for pride and country in this one. They could put their best lineup on the pitch or choose to go with some of their backups in this one to get them some experience. Then again, if they can defend for 90-plus minutes and not give up a goal, they might be able to leave the World Cup with a single point.

Iran hasn't scored in either of their opening games and they've only give up the Messi tally in stoppage time. Bosnia isn't a very tactical team that is well-organized or disciplined as a unit, so we expect Iran to break out of the goal-less stage. This match could turn into an up and down battle with offenses going at it and lots of shots. Because neither team will really want to play defense in this one, we'll side with Iran, who seems to have the better overall team.

Free Pick: Iran 3, Bosnia 2
