2014 Preakness Stakes Contenders Bayern

The Preakness Stakes, one of horse racing’s premier events, gets underway tonight with a start time of 6.18 pm (ET). The event will take place at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. There are several Contenders in the event, including Bayern, who has been installed as 10/1 Odds to win the Preakness Stakes.

Bayern Record: 2-1-1 in 4 Races. Trainer: Bob Baffert Jockey: Rosie Napravnick Sire: Offlee Wild Dam: Alittlebitearly Best Beyer Speed: 98

Bayern has just 4 races on his resume, but they have been solid races as he won two of them and placed in his other 2. Bayern may have had 3 wins but at the Grade 3 Derby Trial he was disqualified for repeatedly brushing with Embellishing Bob down the stretch. He had to settle for 2nd in that race.

Bayern will be ridden by Rosie Napravnick, who started her career in 2005, right here at Pimlico. Rosie has more experience here as she finished 3rd in the Preakness last while riding Mylute. In 2013, Rosie lead all female Jockeys with 269 wins and this year she has 99 wins and nearly $4.4 million in purses already.

Bob Balfert is a hall of fame trainer and will be looking for his 6th victory in the Preakness Stakes. His last win here was in 2010 with Lookin At Lucky. Baffert comes in with more than 2400 wins in his career and is the first trainer in history to win the Kentucky Derby in Preakness in back-to-back years.

Rosie will need to use here familiarity with the track and will also need to ride Bayen perfectly and save plenty for the stretch run if they have any hope of upsetting California Chrome.
