The Fresno State Bulldogs won 11 games last season and are looking to build upon that success. The 2014 Fresno State Bulldogs Schedule is a tough one, especially in the non-conference. Getting back to 11 wins won't be easy, but the Bulldogs are primed for another run.
Fresno State is having to replace quarterback Derek Carr, who graduated and went to the NFL. They're also looking to replaced their best wide receiver from last year as Davante Adams took advantage of the three-year rule and left as a redshirt sophomore for the NFL as well. How will the offense respond to them leaving? Brian Burrell is expected to be the signal caller for the Bulldogs.
Tim DeRuyter is the head coach, having led the Bulldogs to 20 wins in his two seasons. Despite losing Carr and Adams, the Bulldogs should still have a lot of firepower this season. They return three receivers who all have the ability to make up the best corps in the league. Josh Harper caught 13 TDs last year and leads that group. The running back group isn't the best in the conference, but they do have a couple of guys they can count on to give them solid games. The offensive line should be pretty solid again, as well.
On defense, the Bulldogs should be pretty solid. They return one of the best free safties in college football in Derron Smith. They are also solid up front and have a very good linebacker group coming back. While the offense is going to take some time (presumably) to get it figured out, the defense should be pretty solid.
But with two straight road games at USC and Utah, they are going to have a tough start. Then they host Nebraska before hosting Southern Utah to complete their non-conference schedule. If they can find a way to come out of that with a 2-2 record or so, they'll be OK heading into the conference schedule.
