Virginia Tech won fewer than 10 games for the first time since 2003 when it closed out its 2012 season with a 7-6 record. The sub-par finish was, indeed, a surprise given the success the Hokies have experienced under Frank Beamer. The odds makers, including those at 5Dimes, are viewing the lackluster campaign as an anomaly as Virginia Tech is expected to win Over 8.5 games (-140 odds) and contend for the Coastal Division title (+295 odds) and ACC Championship (+775 odds) this year. 2014 BCS Title Odds from the offshore book also see Tech as a dark horse National Championship contender. Beamer's troops are presently lined at +22500 odds to win ($100 wins $22500) the Coaches' Trophy.
It would appear, at least based upon the Golden Nugget's early college football lines, that Alabama and Miami are the only things standing between Virginia Tech and an undefeated season. Granted, the Las Vegas sportsbook and casino does not have all of the Hokies games lined, but it certainly has their most challenging ones listed. And Virginia Tech is favored in all of them with the exception of meetings against the Crimson Tide and Hurricanes.
