The first and most prestigious major of the golf season, The Masters Tournament, is set to begin on Thursday, April 11th at the 7,435 yards, par 72 Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia. The field will feature 19 previous Green Jacket winners, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and last year’s winner, Bubba Watson. 2013 Masters Odds have Woods, a four-time Masters champion, listed as a +300 moneyline favorite ($100 wins $300) to capture his 15th major championship. Mickelson, a three-time Green Jacket winner, is a third choice at +1500 odds while Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlory, who currently holds the No. 2 spot in the Official World Golf Rankings, is a second pick at +1200 odds. The aforementioned Watson is drawing +4000 to win his second major championship.
Tiger Woods struggles over the past few years, both personal and professional, are well documented, but he appears to have put them in the rearview mirror. Woods play through five 2013 PGA Tournaments has been exemplary with the Stanford product garnering three victories (77 for his career), including the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship in early March.
Woods posted a 19 under par 269 at the event, which took place at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral, to give him 12th career wire-to-wire win.
All Woods, who regained the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings with his win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month, needs to complete his reclamation project is another major championship.
Augusta National seems like a fitting place for Tiger to do just that. Woods, who holds Masters’ records for the lowest four day score (-18 in 1997) and largest margin of victory (12 strokes, also in 1997), won the Green Jacket in 1997, 2001, 2002, and 2005, and he has finished sixth or better in seven of the last eight Masters tournaments.
