Incognito trainer Kiaran McLaughlin is hoping the roan colt is a late bloomer ready to break out at tomorrow’s 145th Belmont Stakes. The odds makers are not counting on it, though. 2013 Belmont Odds would suggest Incognito, who will jump from Post 6, has almost no chance of winning Saturday’s Triple Crown finale. The colt is presently a +3000 moneyline play ($100 wins $3000), which means only Giant Finish and Midnight Taboo (both drawing a +4000 line) are considered bigger Belmont longshots.
Incognito has just six races on his resume; however, four of those came in maiden special weight outings. The colt finally broke its maiden in March in a one mile run at The Aqueduct in Ozone Park, New York.
Incognito earned his second career win less than a month later in a one mile Allowance race, also at The Aqueduct. Incognito’s newfound momentum did not last long, though, as a step up in competition knocked him back a bit.
Incognito took fifth in the Grade 2 Peter Pan Stakes (1 1/8 miles) at Belmont Park on May 11
th, but he finished less than a half length behind third place colt Go Get The Basil on a very sloppy track.
Incognito, while a definite longshot, does have winning bloodlines. The colt’s sire, A.P. Indy, won the 1992 Belmont Stakes and its dam, Octave, comes from Unbridled’s Song, the son of 1990 Kentucky Derby winner Unbridled.
The Belmont Stakes will conclude this year’s Triple Crown Series when it gets underway tomorrow afternoon (5:00pm ET, NBC and NBC Sports Network) at the Belmont Race Track in Elmont, New York.
