The 2012 NBA Draft will take place on Thursday, June 28th at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The draft has a scheduled start time of 7:00pm ET; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. The following are a sampling of the wagers being offered by the offshore odds maker:
Anthony Davis – Will he be selected as the No. 1 overall pick? Yes -5000, No +2000
Wagering $5000 to win $100 seems about as intelligent as selecting Sam Bowie ahead of Michael Jordan, but this is a guaranteed $100. If it is not, every one who works in the Hornets front office should be fired.
Thomas Robinson – Will he be selected as the No. 2 overall pick? Yes -140 No +100
This is a tough call given Charlotte’s recent trade to acquire Ben Gordon. The consensus among NBA Draft pundits seems to be that Florida’s Bradley Beal is the second best talent in the draft; however, it seems unlikely that the Bobcats, who have the No. 2 pick, would add a player whose skill set resembles Gordon’s talents. Charlotte also has Gerald Henderson, who plays a similar game to top prospects Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Harrison Barnes.
Player to get drafted first: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist -180, Harrison Barnes +130
Assuming Thomas and Beal go in the top three that leaves Cleveland in the running for both Kidd-Gilchrist and Barnes. While Barnes may be the better pure scorer, Kidd-Gilchrist is a much better defender and his offensive game is respectable as well. The Cavaliers could certainly use some help on defense (100.2 points per game allowed last season), and Kidd-Gilchrist would provide that immediately.
Total Kentucky players drafted in the Lottery (Picks 1 through 14): Over 2.5 (+120) Under 2.5 (-160)
Anthony Davis and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist are Lottery locks, the other UK consideration is power forward Terrence Jones. Most mocks have Jones falling just outside the Lottery, going in the 15, 16, 17 range.
