Going into the 2011 Kentucky Derby the three horses penciled in by experts as the favorites were Dialed In (4-1), Nehro (6-1) and Uncle Mo (6-1). With Uncle Mo being scratched early Friday Morning it left Dialed In and Nehro in a field of long shots. Below is the breakdown of the next tier of horses that the oddsmakers have favored to win the 137th running of the Kentucky Derby:
Archarcharch (10-1): Archarcharch is coming into the Kentucky Derby with a nice win at the Arkansas Derby with a career best Beyer of 98 and a time of 1:49:20. With four similar type races under his belt, we love the 10-1 here.
Mucho Macho Man (12-1): Not bred for a race of this type, this horse has tons of experience and boasts an overall record of 8-2-3-2. One nice factor is Mucho Macho Man has already faced both favorites (Dialed In & Nehro), so there will be no intimidation involved from the top two in the field.
Midnight Interlude: Having Bob Baffert as a trainer will probably get the odds down on this horse, but don't fall into the public trap betting Midnight Interlude on Saturday. Expect to see this horse be in the thick of the race until the home stretch and fade out of the money.
