The Phoenix Suns have had a record breaking offensive since the promotion of new coach Alvin Gentry, scoring 140 points for the third straight game on Friday. The coach has said the loss of Amare Stoudemire for the season might lead the team to go even smaller, and thus looking to run even more.
Coach Gentry said: "We're not going to change our style of play. It's like I said to somebody today, the end result might be that it's not a dunk at the end, but it might be a layup - which still counts for two points. It might not be one of the Amare SportsCenter dunks, but if we can get it in the basket, then that's what we're going to try to do."
The Suns competition these last three games has been great (Oklahoma City and the Clippers twice). Also consider the general excitement of the team running again has been energizing, but one would have to think that a thinned out Suns squad will have trouble keeping up this fast pace.
Insiders report that an aging Steve Nash is worried about his minutes, and is nursing a number of injuries (back, shoulder). I would not be surprised if Nash is the player to break down.
For bettors, looking hard at playing against the Suns when playing on back-to-back could very well be a profitable situation.
