The Packers vs the Steelers make for quite a Super Bowl, as they comprise the first Super Bowl matchup of teams more than 75 years old. The Packers have been in business since 1919 and a part of the NFL since 1921 (hold the distinction as the only NFL franchise that is publicly owned) while the Steelers were founded by Art Rooney in 1933. Green Bay has won more championships ( 12 ) than any other team in National Football... Read more

If someone would have told me that the winning QB in the NFC championship game would have a 55.4 QB rating and that the winning QB in the AFC championship game would have a 35.5 rating and asked me to pick predict the Super Bowl XLV matchup, I would have, without hesitation (and with supreme confidence), declared Bears vs Jets. So much for that. However, we all know that Rodgers’ 55.4 rating vs the Bears on January 23rd... Read more

Only seven of the 12 teams that made the playoffs last season were back for this year’s ‘party.’ Those teams were Baltimore, Green Bay, Indianapolis (with an NFL record-tying ninth straight postseason appearance), New England, New Orleans, the New York Jets and Philadelphia are repeating their appearance of a season ago. This year’s “newbies” included Atlanta, Chicago, Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Seattle. Of last year... Read more

NFL Notes (Week 11)

11/21/2010 6:42 AM ·

Michael Vick put on a clinic last Monday night as the Eagles decimated the Redskins, 59-28. Vick completed 20-of-28 passes for 333 yards with four TD passes and not a single interception. He also ran for 80 yards (on just eight carries) while tacking on another two Ds on the ground. "Jaws" couldn't contain himself throughout the game, repeating over and over again his favorite refrain that goes "points come from the passing... Read more

NFL Notes (Week 9)

11/07/2010 7:37 AM ·

One doesn't need an advanced mathematics degree to figure out that Week 9 is the midway point of the NFL's 17-week schedule. End the season right now and not a single NFC division winner from last year would repeat. The Cowboys won the East last season at 11-5 but are in last-place at 1-6 entering Week 9 play (Giants lead at 5-2). The Vikings won the North last year at 12-4 but are currently 2-5 (Packers lead at 5-3 and... Read more

NFL Notes (Week 7)

10/24/2010 7:56 AM ·

An age-old axiom says you need to run the ball to win in the NFL and for those who believe in that, the following numbers will support that belief. Teams with the most rushing yards in a game are 65-25 SU (.722) and an equally impressive 61-27-2 ATS (69.4 percent) after six weeks. Teams who have run more times in a game own an even higher winning percentage, going 71-15 SU (.826) and 66-19-1 ATS (77.6 percent) with four... Read more

NFL Notes (Week 6)

10/16/2010 8:58 AM ·

I opened last week's NFL Notes with the following statement, "It's almost impossible to believe that after four weeks of the 2010 season, the NFL's lone unbeaten team is the 3-0 KC Chiefs." The Chiefs acquitted themselves well at Indy last week but fell 19-9 to the Colts. So unlike last year when the Saints opened 13-0 and the Colts 14-0 (or as in 2007 when the Pats went 16-0 in the regular season and were 18-0 before... Read more

NFL Notes (Week 5)

10/10/2010 5:24 AM ·

It's almost impossible to believe that after four weeks of the 2010 season, the NFL's lone unbeaten team is the 3-0 KC Chiefs. The Chiefs are coming off a 4-12 year in 2009 and the team's three-year record coming onto the 2010 season was 10-38. The Chiefs were idle last week but fellow 3-0 unbeatens Chicago and Pittsburgh both lost in Week 4, the Bears 17-3 at the Giants and the Steelers 17-14 at home to the Ravens. Five... Read more

NFL Notes (Week 4)

10/03/2010 7:58 AM ·

Three weeks down and 14 to go in the NFL's 2010 regular season. Eight teams entered Week 2 at 2-0 and eight more at 0-2. Just three teams emerged still unscathed after Week's 3 play (two unbeatens were guaranteed to lose as the Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay and Green Bay at Chicago games featured a pair of unbeatens. Left standing at 3-0 after Week are Chicago, KC and Pittsburgh. All three are huge surprises, as the Bears were... Read more

NFL Notes (Weeks 1 & 2):

09/19/2010 8:19 AM ·

The Saints and Vikings opened the 2010 NFL regular season on September 9, a rematch of last year's NFC championship game which the Saints won 31-28 in overtime. This game was nothing like last year's shootout, as the Saints prevailed 14-9. It's somewhat ironic that 2010's first game fell "right on the number." The Saints opened a 4 1/2-point favorite over the Vikings, climbed as high as 5 1/2 and closed in most places... Read more
