Mike & Jon..I'm really looking forward to this thread throughout the Majors. I don't know much at all about golf but I do enjoy watching these majors and having some action on them so I'll be piggy-backing whatever you guys share...
Quick question and you can answer whenever you get the chance...
Any value in Justin Rose, Adam Scott, or Haas ?? Those are the 3 names someone out here that bets golf said I may want to toss a small bet on. I figured I'd check with you guys before I do. Thanks. VR
Hook may give you another way of seeing the value on these players...but my short answer is Yes. Tiger is often not good value, and now Rory is becoming a player without good value. Their odds are both in the +300 to +600 range at the moment...and since they dropped so low in odds (two guys, rather than just Tiger alone), it gives most other players some good value IMHO. People like to cheer for Phil or Tiger (but not both), and now, mostly starting this weekend, people will be cheering for Tiger or Rory -- but not both! These are becoming rivals in most peoples eyes. So when you take out those 3 in terms of betting, you already jump to a player at 15/1 and outside of the top 5 golfers, everyone is over 20/1 -- many of them great values. Typically people who play here for the first time dont win, though there are exceptions. the reason is mostly due to reading the greens.
breaking down that list a tad more for you: Scott was the runner up last year -- has the best swing in golf and surely can win here -- i do worry about his long putter on these greens, but as i said, runner up last year cannot be ignored. Rose is a great player and one of the best putters...having a solid season. In my opinion, id rank those two ahead of Haas -- a solid player that I will look to use in my H2H plays, but not sure he can get the win on this course. Haas, like Rose, has had a really nice season and since you get him at such higher odds than the other two, my vote is that Haas gets you the best value, even though i dont think he actually can win...and the other two guys are solid moves with the odds you get from them. hope that helps VR! keep the questions coming.
