MONTPELLIER FINALS:
- Finalists: Alexander Zverev vs Alexander Bublik
- Prize Money: $547,208
- Surface: Hard Court
2* - Alexander Zverev wins 2-0 Sets (-175)
Alexander Zverev made easy work of Mikael Ymer in the semifinal. He has dropped only five games in the last two matches against the in-form Adrian Mannarino and the talented Swede, 6-1 6-0 and 6-1 6-3, respectively.
The top-ranked German knew he had a lot to lose and very little to gain when he accepted the wildcard in Montpellier a few days ago. Even winning the title this week wouldn't erase his early-season disappointments at the ATP Cup (group stages) and Australian Open (R16) but failing to win it will put him under immense pressure.
Having said that, there aren't many outside top-5 players that are capable of beating him at the moment, especially on indoor hard courts. He is a two-time champion of ATP Finals and won seven of his eight championship matches on the surface, including against the likes of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, and Stan Wawrinka.
Moreover, the 24-year-old holds a dominant 9-2 record against outside top-20 players in title-deciding clashes at this level.
With the domination with which Alexander Zverev has been playing the tournament, it seems to be inevitable that the world No.3 will triumph in the finals and win the title. You cannot rule Alexander Bublik completely out of the match due to the performance he has shown against much higher ranked players compared to him. However, the German has looked flawless this week and will be looking to seal the deal against the Kazakh and win the ATP Montpellier 2022.
This Finals match starts around 8AM (CST).
