There are stats and data on just about everything now when it come to sports. You have coaches who pretty much now do not care about time of possession you have major media outlets who rely heavily on things like passer rating What are some stats that you find to not mean much.
#1 QB Passer Rating - Probably by far the most irrelevant and out of context stat there is. The media has installed to us anything over 100 is a good QBR. Yet it max's out at 158.3. Well lets look at how this number is created.
The QB stat line consists of Touchdowns, Interceptions, Attempts, Completions, and yards
There are 4 categories where you can earn points Completion %, Yards / Attempt,Touchdown %, and interception %. For each category you can earn a max of 2.375
Completion % = ((Completions/Attempts)*100 -30 ) *.05 = Your actual Result which is capped at 2.375
Yards / Attempt = ((Yards/Attempts ) -3 ) *.25 = Your actual Result which is capped at 2.375
Touchdown% = ((Touchdowns/Attemtpts) *100)*.02 = Your actual Result which is capped at 2.375
Interception% = 2.375 - (((Interceptions/Attempts)*100)*.25) = Your actual Result which is capped at 2.375
Passer rating = ((Completion %+Yards / Attempt +Touchdown% + Interception%)/6)*100
#2 WHIP - Any stat where a HR is equal to a walk gets thrown out immediately to me
#3 BABIP another baseball stat part of the sabr family. Dubv breaks it down in this thread better than i could /pregame-forums/f/11/t/487728.aspx
