jkosson - you don't have to bet $1k per game to be profitable. The $17.5k return on a $50k bankroll was just one example. The same example with a smaller bankroll would still be quite profitable. The strategy is what's relevant:
1. Buy picks in packages using bulk dollars
2. Use a proven approach like Kelly Criterion to maximize bankroll growth and minimize risk of ruin
3. Choose a handicapper with a measurable win rate. For an "unknown", have to assume 50% which would mean you shouldn't be betting. To be measurable, every pick over a multi-year, preferably at least 2 and 3 is better, needs to be documented.
