That is true, Petey. Today's rant is one about the dreaded "Game of the Year", "Month" or whatever. Do people actually believe that these plays will cash at a much higher percentage or are worth putting your mortgage money on? Yes, they should win at a higher percentage but no, don't put money you cannot afford to lose on it. It is strictly marketing.....for the last time!
Generally, we will see an increase in these marketed games when Xmas is arriving. Whether is is the fact that many sports converge or the fact that people need more money for Christmas, it should not change the way that we view them all.......with an eye of suspicion. By all means, play them. But don't put much more stock in them than in any other "purchased" games.
I personally believe that a Pro (or anyone else) "tabbing" a game as a GOY carries much more risk than reward to a reputation, so why then is it done? People just need to understand to have lesser expectations on these plays, whether that is right or wrong.
Knowing that most people have more money in their hands (that they cannot afford to lose) at this time of year, responsibility should prevail. Less marketing at this time of year would be better for the people, maybe not so much for the business......
Pregame policy should dictate no extreme marketing in December!
Again I have never purchased a play, but with a gambler's heart I can easily see how this "marketing" could draw people in. In all liklihood, those of us who can least afford it. Please, give these folks a break before Christmas. It'll do your hearts good. Merry Christmas and a Safe and Prosperous New Year!
