I treat basketball/baseball/hockey differently from football. For many years, both on this site and for my personal service clients, I have 2 levels of play for football. For basketball/baseball/hockey I generally go by the mantra of "a play is a play is a play" or "all plays are the same." The reason for this approach is quite simple and relates to the fact that football differs from the other sports in 3 main ways -- (1) the limited number of games which makes each game much more important to the entire season's results than does a single game in the other sports; (2) football is played once a week while the other sports play multiple games per week; (3) the scoring in football is different than the other sports with football's scoring done in 3's and 7's while the other sports are scored, for the most part, in 1's, 2's and 3's. The first two reasons also result in fewer selections in football over the course of the season relative to the other sports, making it possible to attach more weight to some football selections than in the other sports which result in many more plays over the course of a season.
Yet, over the latter part of the basketball season I shall have more selections overall, on a daily and weekly basis, and thus plan on including more 1* and 2* plays in addition to the 3*s. But that is done to be more in line with what sells well, promotes well and is in line with what the site prefers rather than adherence to my personal style of all plays, other than in football, being equally weighted
