Cat Stevens at The Anaheim Convention Center before he changed his name and stopped recording. We had great seats. Very talented as his hands flew cross the keyboard while singing his heartfelt lyrics.
I had tickets to see Harry Chapin at Long Beach State, but he tragically died in a car crash a few days before he was scheduled to appear. I know the lyrics to all his songs and sing them in the car as I drive. He did many charity concerts, sometimes appearing alone without his band because they didn't share his willingness to perform without pay. A great story told about the common man in every song.
Saw The Who in their "Farewell Concert" at the Los Angeles Coliseum in 1983. Sat a football field away from the stage. Two 11 year olds were smoking pot in the row in front of us. I gave them a good lecture ! Great concert, played all their hits, ending with "Won't Get Fooled Again." I can't believe Roger Daltry never conked Pete Townsend in the head with that microphone as he twirled it wilding around his head ! LOL !
Took my mom to see Frank Sinatra every time he came to SoCal - playing at the Universal Amphitheater and once "in the round" at The Long Beach Arena. Sammy Davis Jr. opened for him. Not a dry eye in the house as he sang "Mr. Bojangles" very meaningfully.
Paul McCartney played one year at that huge desert festival in SoCal. I have a place far out in the Mojave Desert. The evening before his performance he stole away from the mob and drove back into the wilds finding a bar with a small stage in "PioneerTown." He sat on a stool and performed acoustically for a surprised group of us locals that night ! What a treat !
