I like the looks of that book about TR..
Markus...I’m curious about selfish gene...what is the premise?
Going to use some quotes from a summary that explains it way way better than I could....
"Due to their naturally selfish behavior, genes merely use organisms as mechanisms to ensure they're own survival. Different body features, behaviors and even altruistic actions are nothing but tools for them"
"...explains the process of evolution in biology using genes as its basic unit, showing how they manifest in the form of organisms, what they do to ensure their own survival, how they program our brains, which strategies have worked best throughout history and what makes humans so special in this context"
It's written by Richard Dawkins. He's not for everyone, but this book isn't controversial in the sense of "The God Delusion" is. (imo....absolutely incredible book)
Reading this will not be effortless by any means. It requires a thesaurus occasionally (anything by Dawkins will). It might even feel like homework lol. But I'm very glad I pushed my way through it. It's really difficult for me to explain how this book teaches so much more than just evolution and biology but it does and I would promise anyone who finishes it that you'll feel immensely more intelligent and understanding of why things happen, why people do what they do and why society is the way it is. It'll teach you about biology, people, behaviors, motivations, ebbs and flows, etc etc etc etc. What is learned through biology and evolution in the book can be applied to other areas of life. Parallels can be drawn. So hard to explain lol.
