I’ve got to be honest, guys. I want to like baseball, I just can’t figure out how to do so. There was a year where I followed the Cincinnati Reds fairly closely because one of their players, Austin Kearns, went to high school with me. I have been to a handful of Reds games, which were fun, but I think I was mostly using them as an excuse to eat Cincinnati-style coneys (Gold Star over Skyline every day btw) and eat ice cream out of plastic hats.
There are certainly things to like about baseball. There are great baseball movies, cool nicknames, and I have to give some love to any sport that promotes snacks like this. The game itself though, that is where you lose me. Once Kearns got traded away to the Nationals on a random Wednesday, I realized player loyalty isn’t very strong in this game (and you can tell from my unabashed college sports enthusiasm that I’m big on loyalty), and I began to lose interest. There are so many games, sometimes even the players look bored, and I’m definitely not up for learning sabermetrics.
So fellow Pregamers, here is where you come in. I need someone to convince me to like baseball. If you can do so, you can win your choice of a Pregame hat, a Pregame t-shirt, or $25 bulk dollars to use on Pregame.com. You can make your argument any way you’d like—you can write a compelling argument or a sonnet, you can find a YouTube clip of a great play in baseball history, you can paint a picture and upload it, or you can cryptically convey your points entirely using emojis. It is up to you. You have until the end of day next Monday to submit your entries, and you can even enter more than once if you want.
I will be picking my favorite entry as the winner, but I will be swayed by posts that get a large number of likes or responses in the thread, so don’t just aim to appeal to me and my love of greasy fried food, okay?
