JAMES MADISON AT COLGATE
James Madison won their first round game 20-6 over Delaware. They were the only member of the CAA to win a first round game (out of 6) and it was against a fellow CAA member. The Duke's defense was mainly responsible for the win as they held the Blue Hens to 185 yards. Two interceptions also helped and were more than was needed as the JMU offense sputtered most of the day also.
Colgate comes in off of a first round bye and seeded #8. If the Duke's had trouble against the Blue Hen's defense they're really up against it this week. Colgate has the #1 defense in the country. They're also #1 in scoring defense giving up a absurd total of 5.7 ppg. If you take away their first and last (Army) game they gave up a crazy 3.2 ppg. They had five shutouts on the year. They're only loss on the year was to FBS Army 28-14. On the other side of the ball they have a average, at best, offense.
On the minus side Colgate hasn't played nearly as difficult a schedule as James Madison but they do have one common opponent, New Hampshire. Colgate beat them 10-3 and New Hampshire beat James Madison 35-24. They have the lowest total I've ever seen on an FCS game of 34 1/2. Look for a close low scoring game. Give me the top defense in the nation, at home, and catching 7 points.
