Analysis
With the home side getting almost a touchdown in hand, we will go against the public in primetime, and side with the hometown Cardinals. The home side is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in this divisional rivalry and Arizona is sitting at 6-2 as a home dog in their last eight games, including a 3-1 SU record at home. The last time these teams met, in early December of last season, Arizona shut the anemic San Francisco offense down and hung on for a 21-19 win. John Skelton passed for 282 yards with three TDs in that game as the Arizona running game was all but shut down with60 total yards on the ground. Larry Fitzgereld went big catching seven balls on nine targets for 149 yards including a 53 yard touchdown. The key to shutting down SF will be the success of Frank Gore, who ran for 72 yards on ten carries, as Alex Smith was mystified by the Cardinal cover schemes pasing for only 175 yards and converting 18/37 passing attempts. San Francisco is coming off a three game homestand in which they started off strong in a blowout win over Buffalo, then wen ton to lay an egg against the Giants, followed by a hard fought 13-6 divisional win over the Seahawks. Last week the Cardinals lost a similar scoring game, 21-14 to the Vikings, as the 49ers did with their second road game of the year, a 24-13 loss to the Vikings in the same Metrodome. Expect to see a similar fought game between these teams with the division crown up in the air with Seattle and Arizona on the heels of the 49ers. Take the home team, touchdown in hand.
