Analysis
We will side with the Giants, who find themselves in the position of having home field advantage, yet are HUGE underdogs to the Tigers and their undefeated starter, Justin Verlander (3-0, 0.76 ERA in playoffs). Verlander is the reigning MVP and Cy Young award winner and the Tigers also boast the first triple crown winner in Miquel Cabrera, the first in 41 years. While it remains no doubt in the minds of the public that the Tigers will dominate, game one in your home park is a huge advantage for San Francisco, its a ballpark Verlander is not too familiar with and the Giants fans know the taste of of a WS victory two years ago. The Giants are 12-5 in their last 17 home games, and an incredible 14-5 in their last 19 games as an underdog. The Giants starter, veteran Barry Zito has been solid in the post-season himself with a 1-0 record and 1.74 ERA, and this season was a perfect 8-0 in underdog situations. Interesting to note, three times in World Series history where one team is came in off a sweep, and the other off a seven game series, resulted in the battle tested club who went the distance to win the World Championship each time. We will take the Giants as the big home dog.
