Analysis

The Avs will be without MacKinnon, as he has tested positive for Covid-19. Naturally, that's a blow, as he's one of the best in the world. Still, the Avs are the far more complete team, even without their top player. Also, the line has dropped due to the news about MacKinnon. The Avalanche franchise is 23-11-7 (.646) all-time on Opening Night. (That's the second-best mark in the NHL.) Even with a loss last year, the Avs are 4-1 in season openers with Jared Bednar as their head coach.
