Analysis
Both of these offenses have tremendous matchups in week 2. The Steelers are one of the most man coverage heavy defenses in the league. That typically is good for mobile quarterbacks in the run game, but it is also a huge boost for Wilson in the passing game. Wilson’s 46 touchdown passes against man-coverage looks lead the NFL since 2017 despite more attempts versus zone man during that stretch, according to sports info solutions. The Steelers insist on covering elite slot wide receivers with linebackers (Keenan Allen, Edelman, and others have experienced this), which is good for Seattle. Seattle’s best wide receiver Tyler Lockett plays primarily in the slot. Pittsburgh gave up the NFL’s second-most completions and fifth-most yards in the slot last year. The Steelers gave up seven 20+ yard completions in week 1, tied for the most in the league, and will likely be without their best cornerback Joe Haden.

The Steelers and Big Ben now get to face a defense that just allowed Andy Dalton to throw for 418 yards, and they aren’t much better against the run (32nd in rush YPA last season). The Seahawks are missing likely missing DE Ezekiel Ansah, and are missing stud DT Jaraan Reed and his backup Poona Ford. Each Steeler skill position player has a plus matchup, led by Juju Smith Schuster, who will likely be going against the Seahawks slot corner, which is a weakness after they lost Justin Coleman in free agency. The Seahawks defense was 26th in YPP last season.

One of the little-known facts about Seattle is that towards the second half of 2018 they developed into more of an OVER team. Their last 10 games going back to last season have had point totals of 41,46,51,69,49,28,59,57,51, and 67 points. The Steelers implied team total is only 25 points, despite the fact that since 2016 the Steelers have averaged 29.4 PPG at home.
