Analysis

Iowa came up inches short of making it to the Play-offs last season and the the hangover affect was in full focus after that Michigan St loss as they were beaten 45-16 by Stanford in the Rose Bowl as a 6-pt underdog. The problem for the Hawkeyes in this opener is that Kirk Ferentz is not a rah-rah head coach and in the last 5 seasons they have gone 1-4 ATS in their opener with the cover being only a 14 point win versus an FCS team. In fact Iowa rarely runs up the score and is just 1-6 ATS the last 2 seasons as a DD favorite. It's also difficult to imagine the Hawkeye players being full motivated verses a MAC team that has gone 5-31 the past 3 seasons especially with in-state rival Iowa St on deck, a foe that has beaten then at home each of their last two visits. The Miami Redhawks are now in the 3rd season of HC Chuck Martins schemes and he has been an incredible recruiter finishing second in the MAC the last 2 seasons. Miami returns 16 starters, and now believes in themselves as the team after going 2-34 vs FBS teams actually finished the season winning 2 of their last 3. Lastly the Redhawks are 4-1 ATS as a dog of 21 or more points and the only non-cover came last year with Miami coming off a rare win and Wisconsin coming off a rare loss.
