I'm backing the Marlins on Sunday. I have already backed Jose Fernandez twice since he came back from Tommy John surgery. Both starts were at home where he is now a perfect 15-0 in 23 starts, posting a 1.19 ERA, helping his squad to a 20-3 mark. Fernandez has 173 strikeouts and a .172 BAA in the 23 outings. SDG has played a better brand of baseball of late, but I don't believe they'll be able to become the first team to hang a loss on the Miami right-hander. The Padres send James Shields to the hill. The Friars have won just two of his last 10 starts and while his overall numbers have looked decent of late, he still hasn't found the formula on the road where he has a hefty 5.71 ERA & 1.44 WHIP in his last six road starts. Shields has also struggled in daytime outings in 2015. Finally, Fernandez has held SDG scoreless in 14 2/3 innings at home, allowing just five hits. The Marlins are on an 11-2 run as home chalk and they're 14-1 when Fernandez is listed as a home favorite. I'm backing the Marlins, my Sunday Heavy Hitter. Thanks & GL! Scott Spreitzer.
