The Toronto Blue Jays and Boston Red Sox meet for the 10^th time this season when they open a four game set at Fenway Park tonight. This evening’s clash between the two divisional rivals is scheduled to get underway at 7:10pm ET. The latest MLB Free Picks and Odds have the hosting Red Sox listed as a -170 moneyline favorite ($170 wins $100) and the Over/Under set at 9.5 runs (Over favored at -120 odds). Toronto is drawing +155 odds to win its 40^th game of the season.

 

The 39-38 Blue Jays presently own last place in the AL East standings and they are 6.5 games behind the first place Red Sox; however, they are the hottest team in baseball right now. Toronto is coming off a road series loss to the Rays, but it rode an 11 game winning streak into Tampa Bay and it closed out the three game set with a 3-0 victory.

 

Chien-Ming Wang gets the call for the Jays tonight as they look for their 12^th win in their last 14 games. Wang has been a nice pick up for Toronto thus far, posting a 2.18 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in three starts for the Jays, but 21 hits and five walks allowed in 20.2 innings of work indicate he has skirted disaster to some extent.

 

Wang’s career numbers at Fenway Park are also suspect with the Taiwan native sporting a 3-4 record and 5.40 ERA in eight starts at the legendary venue.

 

Boston, which improved its record to 47-33 after earning a two game home sweep of the Rockies, will counter Wang with a struggling Jon Lester.

 

Lester started the season in fine fashion, piecing together a 6-2 record and 3.51 ERA through May; however, June has been a disastrous month for the Washington native.

 

Lester is 1-2 with an 8.44 ERA in four June appearances; he has allowed eight home runs and 13 walks in 21.1 innings of work this month. Lester is 2-0 with a 2.86 ERA at Fenway this year, though, and he is 13-7 with a 3.61 ERA in 25 career starts opposite the Jays.
