Texas A&M, after an underachieving 2011 campaign, was expected to flop in its first season as a member of the SEC. The Aggies did anything but flop, though, finishing third in the SEC’s West division with a 6-2 conference record. Texas A&M, which also handed BCS National Champion Alabama its only loss, is getting some off-season love due to its strong 2012 performance. The latest 2014 BCS Championship Odds have the Aggies listed at +1400 moneyline odds to win the national championship next year.
When Kevin Sumlin took over as head coach of Texas A&M most believed the offensive mastermind was inheriting a talented group of players; however, few realized just how talented.
Sumlin, it turns out, had a Heisman Trophy winner under center in redshirt freshman Johnny Manziel as well as potential first round draft picks in defensive end Damontre Moore and left tackle Luke Joeckel.
The Aggies will, as mentioned, lose some impact players this off-season, but they should challenge for the conference title and, potentially, the BCS Championship with Manziel (5116 total yards, 47 touchdowns) returning and the eighth ranked recruiting class coming in (Rivals.com).
