Group G has been listed as the "death group" at this year's World Cup with four very solid clubs being clumped together. In this matchup between Portugal and Germany we have two of the favorites to win the entire tournament going at it in the group stages. Much like the Netherlands and Spain just a few days ago, we're expecting a very solid game between two of the best teams in the world. Now, the Dutch were able to blow that game wide open against the world-champion Spanish club, but we don't think this match will end up with the same 5-1 type score.

These clubs have met up three times in the past few World Cups and Euro Championships. Germany won all three of those matchups and is looking to notch another win here today to grab three very important points. This game is very important for both clubs as Ghana and the United States have the talent and ability to tie or even beat either one of these clubs. While they are the two favorites to reach the knockout stage, it would not be a shock for either the United States or Ghana to find a way into the tournament. 

This is arguably the best World Cup opener in some time and there is a lot at stake. A single point for each team with a draw could mean an opening for either the United States or Ghana. And if either team were to lose in this matchup they'd certainly be in a lot of trouble. Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to start and play in this matchup but has been battling some nagging injuries. A high-level from him could mean the world of difference for Portugal.

In this matchup we're predicting a draw. Both teams are wanting to get off to a good start and if Germany opens with the lead, they could be hard to beat. They are amazing defensively and Portugal does have the offensive talent to hang around in this one. We expect both teams to play well in a very entertaining match.
