NFL Oakland Raiders at Miami Dolphins Preview: Start Time, Odds, Free Pick

Hi-res-134860045_crop_exact

NFL Week 2 continues on Sunday and we will see the Oakland Raiders travel to the east coast to take on the Miami Dolphins. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM (Eastern) start time and it will be televised live on CBS. Currently the odds for the game have Oakland favored by 1 point, while the total sits at 38.5. Currently 69% of the Public is on Oakland, while 61% is on the Over. Free Analysis: Poor special teams and a weak running game contributed greatly to Oakland losing 22-14 to San Diego on Monday Night.  A concussion suffered by long snapper Jon Condo forced backup Travis Goethel into the lineup, resulting in a hard-to-watch effort in which he rolled a pair of snaps and misfired on another punt attempt that led to three field goals for the Chargers. The Raiders' issues went far deeper than the struggles in the punting game. Running back Darren McFadden accounted for only 32 yards on 15 carries and was the main focus of the passing game, hauling in 13 catches for 86 yards. Oakland quarterback Carson Palmer completed 32-of-46 passes for 297 yards and a touchdown, with no interceptions. The return to the lineup of explosive wideout Denarius Moore should help QB Carson Palmer and the vertical passing game. Denarius Moore practiced Wednesday and could be available after missing Monday's contest with a hamstring injury. He led Oakland with five touchdown receptions in 2011 and was second on the team with 618 receiving yards. The Raiders will attempt to end a three-game losing streak to the Dolphins, who have outscored Oakland by a 67-31 margin in a pair of wins over the previous two seasons.

Ryan Tannehill will get a second chance to make a favorable first impression on Sunday. Tannehill, the No. 8 overall pick in this year's draft, had a forgettable pro debut in a loss to the Houston Texans and can allay the concerns of Miami fans with a better performance against Oakland. Tannehill, the first rookie to start at quarterback in franchise history, did not look ready for the bright lights. Tannehill, wound up with no touchdown passes while getting sacked three times. He completed just 20 of 36 passes (55.6 percent) for 219 yards, and the Dolphins rushed for only 79 yards and held the ball for nearly 10 minutes less than the Texans. Oh, and they fumbled three times, losing one. As expected, Reggie Bush was the main offensive threat, accounting for 115 total yards that included six receptions. Bush rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown and Miami churned out 209 yards on the ground in last season's 34-14 home romp over the Raiders. Miami's defense acquitted itself well against Houston's punishing running game, allowing only 83 yards on 35 rushing attempts.

Dolphins are 9-1 in their last 10 non-playoff clashes with Oakland, with the Raiders' only win during that stretch a 35-17 triumph at Sun Life Stadium in 2007. The visitor has prevailed in three of the past five matchups in the series, with the Dolphins posting a 33-17 decision in Oakland during Week 12 of 2010 season. These teams have also faced off four times in the postseason, with the Raiders coming out ahead in three of those games.

Free Pick: Gonna go with the Under in this one. The Dolphins offense is not and will not be all that good this year. Ryan Tannehill will struggle and that means they will have to turn to the running game with Reggie Bush and that will eat clock. It also won't get the Dolphins all that far as the Raiders have a pretty solid run defense. For the Raiders they need to get back to their run game after struggling last week. I don't see a lot of long pass vs a pretty good Miami secondary, so they will have to work the ball down with time consuming drives. The would like to get McFadden untracked in this one and they will feed him the ball a ton. Just too much running and defense to think this one will be high scoring.
